إليك يا قارئ،
أكتب من مدينة عمّان من منتصف موجة حر مخيفة ولكن بالرغم من شدة الشمس وضغط الهواء أكتب بكل تشوق وكل امتنان.
يشرفني تقديم هذا العدد الأول لمجلة بحر الذي بجميع إبداعاته وجماله لا يزال مجرد بداية مشوار طويل. في الأردن، في بلاد الشام، في جنوب غرب آسيا، في العالم كله يوجد نقص – ليس نقص أصوات وآراء و إبداعات بل نقص من يستمع إلى ويعزز هذه الأصوات، من يدعم الذين يسبحون عكس التيار ضد القمع والتهميش وينتجون فن وكتابة وأفكار تقشعر البدن وتقاوم الزمن.
نحن في منصة بحر نؤمن بأنها مسؤوليتنا الجماعية أن نخلق مكان بل نبني وطن آمن ومشجع لهذه الأفكار والإبداعات، لكل من أراد العيش والابتكار على حقيقته من جميع الهويات الجنسية العرقية الجندرية وما غيرها. أيضاً نؤمن بضرورة وجود هذا المكان الآمن بلساننا العربي وبكل لغاتنا الأخرى مهما كانت. لذلك أُطلقت بحر.
نتمنى أن ترافقنا على هذا الدرب وخلال نمونا وتوسع آفاقنا الإبداعية. لدينا الكثير من المشاريع آتية إليك من تواصل النشر، ورشات عمل مختلفة، أمسيات شعرية وفنية، وما بعد. أشكرك من كل قلبي على دعمك للمنصة إن كان مجرد فضول وفضاوة البال التي أوصلتك إلى هنا أو إن ساندتنا وتابعتنا من بداية البداية.
أعجز عن وصف إبداع وكرم هؤلاء المبدعين الذين شاركوا عملهم معنا والآن معكم. أؤكد امتناني الأبدي لهم ولجميع من راسلنا وشارك فنّه مع المنصة.
يا قارئ أرجو أن يعجبك العدد وأوعدك أن مستقبلنا لن يخيب الظن وأن المزيد منّا آت قريباً.

Dear reader,
I write to you from Amman in the midst of an excruciating heat wave. Despite the intense sun and lack of breath, I write with unparalleled enthusiasm and gratitude.
I am honoured to present you with BAHR’s debut issue which, even with all its featured grace and talent, remains only the beginning of our journey. In Jordan, the Levant, South West Asia, indeed the whole world, there is a lack – not of creative voices or art – but of those who will listen to and foster these voices. A lack of support to those who not only go against the grain, but actively fight to undo it. Those who exist despite the world’s various oppressions, and in doing so create work that enchants us and stands as a testimony against time.
At BAHR, we believe it is our collective duty to create a safe space, a home, for all those who seek to create and live as their true selves, artists of varying and intersecting identities, in Arabic and all of our other languages. And so BAHR was created.
We hope you join us on this journey of growth and creative expansion. We have so many exciting projects coming your way from publishing to workshops to events and more. I thank you from the depths of my heart for supporting us – whether your curiosity has just brought you here or whether you’ve been championing us since day.
My words could never do justice to the immense creativity and generosity this issue’s contributors have. I am eternally grateful for their grace and work as I am of everyone who shared their work with us so far.
Reader, I hope you enjoy this collection of incredible work. I promise there is more to come from us yet and soon.
